August Meeting and Update Letter from Don Neumann

Membership Meeting
August 10, 2020
6:30 pm
Pike Lake Amphitheater

Fellow Friends of Pike Lake,

I hope this note finds you all healthy and in good spirits. Anxiety, uncertainty and isolation due to the pandemic has made these past few months difficult for all of us. Due to restrictions and concern for the public’s safety it was necessary for the “Friends” group to cancel our planned events. As you know, the property has been very busy this Summer. Despite the variety of restrictions and short staffing, the DNR staff has done an amazing job of forwarding our mutual programs and serving the public.

With a large anonymous contribution and matching the stewardship funds, the campground to beach bike trail has been completed. Rob and Justin using some rented equipment did the work in-house and completed the project well under budget. Rob submitted protocols to sell campfire wood and ice and the state headquarters granted permission to do so. We thus have an income stream throughout this Summer. Thanks again to Rob and the staff for undertaking the necessary safety precautions to make this possible. The Julie Peltier Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Olivia Kreft who will be attending UW Oshkosh in the Spring semester. Dee and Kathy spent a good deal of time and legwork to come up with a new design for our Pike Lake merchandise. It is very attractive and I hope will sell well when sales are again possible.

After consulting with the board and staff, I have decided to call a membership meeting on August 10th at 6:30PM at the Pike Lake Amphitheater. Spacing with be maintained and face masks required. This has been a difficult decision, but I think it can be done safely if we all act responsibly. Feel free to offer any questions or comments to me at my email address.

Sincerely   Don Neumann
