   Friends of Pike Lake Discovery Day, Saturday, June 7:

Update -- No sticker required for this event and for entry to all Wisconsin State Parks and Forests June 7th & 8th as part of Wisconsin DNR's Free Weekend.

                       The Friends and local DNR staff are planning a variety of fun outdoor activities for visitors of all ages.  Below the schedule on this page, you can see photos from Discovery Day activities from previous years.



            Families and individuals of all ages can find something new to enjoy at the Pike Lake Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest at the Friends of Pike Lake 2014 Discovery Day.  Activities begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June, 7th at the beach parking lot.  Scheduled activities end at noon.  Refreshments and nature-related merchandise will be available.
                   Some of the scheduled activities include:


  •  Have your picture taken with Smokey Bear.
  •  Make nature T-shirt prints in north shelter – bring your own or buy one at the event.
  •  Enjoy the guided bird hike at 8:00 a.m.  
  •  See live reptiles displayed in the north shelter.
  •  Get fishing lessons from members of the Sportsmen’s Club.
  •  View the sun through solar scopes with the guidance of Northern Cross Astronomers.
  •  Take a kayaking lesson.
  •  Try geocaching.
  •  See the display of furs and other animal information presented by   Pike Lake’s DNR naturalist.
  •  Go on a scavenger hunt at 10:00 led by the naturalist.
  •  Take an archery lesson from a DNR warden.  Check qualifying ages at the site.

  •  Learn about trees with a DNR forester.
