Discovery Day on June 1st was a great success.  Many thanks to all who came out to discover the Pike Lake Unit and especially to the community groups who contributed time and provided equipment to help visitors find more to enjoy at Pike Lake.

After some preliminary orientation, the bird hike got underway shortly after 8:00 a.m.

The Northern Cross Science Foundation had steady business at their solar scopes, providing science instruction as people viewed solar prominences and sunspots.

The Hartford Sportsman's Club taught used fish models to teach fishing techniques on land.

Members of the Kettle Moraine Artists Guild added a touch of culture to the activities.

Our visiting herpetologist was a big hit with people of all ages.

Cabela's brought kayaks and instructors to introduce kayaking skills.

        Smokey bear makes everybody smile!
One more look at the sun!

While the local DNR staff has a big selection of summer activities, the next Friends of Pike Lake event is the Community Campfire and Concert on Saturday, September 14th.  The final 2013 event is the Fall Cleanup-Saturday, October twenty-sixth.

Enjoy your summer at Pike Lake!
